Finished Bee Quilt

I am so excited to share this quilt with you!!! I busted my tail to get it done by Friday (aka Hubby's b-day) and although I didn't get it finished before he got off work, I did manage to finish it before the end of the night!
We went out today and had a lot of fun taking pictures of it!!! Let me forewarn you, this will be a photo heavy post! I can't wait to show you!!!!
I love where I live! Beautiful photo ops almost every where you turn! I mentioned "railroad" to my hubby and he took me to this gorgeous view! The quilt is pretty awesome too, huh?
Here is a "snippet" of the back, I improv'd a large log cabin...I think its just as awesome as the front, if I do say so myself!

I am so happy with this quilt!!! It's the first one I've made for "us", when I say "us" I mean me! LOL! Really, it's for him, but I know I'll get some good use out of it too!

Then we decided to head down to the River....I'm telling you, it was a GORGEOUS day!!!
I took soooo many pictures, I swear I've deleted at least 100, if not more, and still have TONS that I didn't edit!

Here is a full pic of the backing...what do you think? Did I do good?
A close up (somewhat) of the quilting...I chose to do random squares and rectangles. Those of you who follow me on Instagram (@CraftNurseQuilt) know that I had some issues with the quilting. I somehow manage to get a GINORMOUS pucker on one of the blocks! I have since washed it and although I can still see it, it's not THAAAAT noticeable.

I think this pic is my favorite from today! I love how the rustic look of the wooden stairs mixes with the modern look of the quilt!

For the binding I mainly used a gray diagonal stripe (I think it's from Riley Blake, but don't quote me on it!) and added a strip of blue, orange, and yellow.
This one is probably my 2nd favorite pic of the day, although I love them all!!!

This quilt is my very first "Bee Quilt" and I want to say a big THANK YOU to the girls from Make It Modern Bee for making these gorgeous blocks for me!!! I love them and will cherish this quilt for many many years!!!!!

Quilt Stats:
Finished size- around 75" x 75"
Pieced- by myself and the lovely ladies of Make It Modern Bee
Quilted- on my DSM by me in a "wondering square" pattern
Design was inspired by Elizabeth Hartman's Craftsy class.

Tell me what you think about it, do you love it as much as I do or is it not your style?

Pretty Fabrics

Wow, Thursday again? Already? Seriously, this has not been a very long week! And I reallly reallllly reeeeeeeally needed it to be! It just so happens that tomorrow is September 27th (also known as my hubby's b-day)!!!!!!!! And what have I got for him? NADDA! I'm busting my tail while he is at work to finish his quilt....well, technically it's mine, but I'm gonna say it's for him....shhhh, y'all don't tell him!!!! ;-)
This week has been all about FINISHING projects for me! I can't show you any of what I have finished YET, it's coming though, soon, I promise! I'm hoping that I can get the rest of "his" quilt quilted and bound by 6 p.m. tomorrow....I will have from around 8:30 in the morning till 6, think I can do it? I'm going to get the binding ready tonight, he'll never know what I'm doing! Sometimes I love how oblivious he is, other times its rather annoying!
So, since I don't have any pretty projects to share with you at the moment I thought I'd share some pretty fabric that have been recently added to my hoard I mean stash! ;)
I FINALLY got my hands on some fabric that I have been DYING (literally) DYING for!!!!

Isn't it just gorgeous?!?!? I love this line! It's called Collage by Carrie Bloomston for Windham Fabrics!
I had a lot of fun just folding and petting this fabric! (I know I can't be the only one who does this!)

I really love the colors in this line! The purples are soooo gorgeous, the blues are amazing, let alone the rest of the colors!!!
But, I do have to say that these 2 text prints are my favorite out of the line! I have big plans for these fabrics! It may take a little bit for it to all come together, but I'm hoping I can make it work!!!
I was asked by my favorite quilt shop owner to make some Halloween goodies for her shop.....SUUUURE! NO PROBLEM! I jumped right on it! (literally, I had an almost completed quilt top the day I got the fabric! LOL!)
This line is called Not So Spooky by Jennifer Jangles for Blend fabrics. It's the first time I had ever worked with their fabrics and I really must say this...I LOVE THE WAY THEY FEEL! (I think the "technical" term is the "hand" of the fabric....I could be wrong though) I mean really, so soft!!!
This is a really fun line. It's not something I would've normally picked to work with so I was a little bit....undecided as to what make with it but then inspiration struck! I love being pushed out of my comfort zone and being challenged to make something outside of my "norm" (if I even have a norm)
I'm really happy with the way the projects turned out, and Teresa (favorite quilt shop owner) is too! I will be sharing those projects with you soon!!!!

Ooooohhhh, guess what?!?!?! I'm going to be teaching! YAY! I'm so excited!!!! Wanna know what one of my classes is going to be? Suuure ya do!

I'm going to be making this awesome table topper called Rock Candy by Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts! I'm so excited to make it! I wish I could dive right in, buuuut, gotta finish just a few other things first!

I picked out these gorgeous prints from Madrona Road for my Rock Candy topper! I know it's going to be GORGEOUS!

I am a little nervous about binding it though. I've never done any kind of binding other than rectangles or squares....just gotta breathe! I can do it, eventually! LOL!
So, what are you guys up to this week? Have any pretty fabrics joined your collection?

WIP Wednesday...a little late

I thought I would drop in and give you guys a quick sneak peak at a WIP! I have like a thousand different WIP's right now, and it seems like I've got deadlines on about everything!!!! But, oh well, I will get it done. (If I keep saying "I think I can I think I can I think I can" maybe I will!!!!) But this particular WIP needs to be done ASAP!
I know I've told you about my addiction to swaps, this is part of a swap. The Modernista swap has been over for a while now, but some people don't follow through with their promises and an Angel was needed. (that just means that someone didn't receive their swap package and someone needed to volunteer to make something for the person missing out) so, being the nice person I am I volunteered! I know I would want someone to volunteer to make me something if I didn't get my package...that's the way I think about it anyways. Sooo, I'm trying to get this package off to my "Angel Partner" as soon as I can since she's already been waiting a long time!!!!
Here's what I've gotten so far....

I made her this cute mug rug (I've been addicted to them recently...so quick and easy!!!) and I really love the way it turned out! This will be one of her small items that I'll send her.

I haven't decided whether I'm going to make her big item into a mini quilt for her wall or a pillow for her bed....decisions, decisions!

I chose to use a pattern by Elizabeth Dackson of Don't Call Me Betsy (no real surprise there since I LOVE her patterns!) this one is called Wheel of Fortune (and is available for purchase!!!) I really like how it's turning out so far! I'm making a total of 9 blocks, which will make it 18" square once sewn together....I may add a border or 2....just depends on what I'm feeling when I get to that point!

It is a paper pieced pattern, here's the sections before trimming.

Here is one of the sections all trimmed up and ready to be made into a block!

I can't wait to see this all come together! I hope she will love it!

A pretty tote and happy mail

I am so excited I just had to share this with you guys!!! I know I've told you all about my "obsession" with online swaps, well I just received my package from The Sewing Room Swap!!! My partner did AMAZING!!!! Wanna see what I got???

I got this lovely mini quilt along with that fabulous bunting and a few extras!!! It was a very happy mail day for me!!!!

I've already hung it up on my wall!!! (my sewing room just happens to double as my bedroom so I have PLENTY of wall space!)

See??? It looks fantabulous!!!! (ignore the color of my walls, I really need to paint, I hate that color!) I should have taken a picture of my other amazing mini I got from the Modernista Swap. It's above the head of my bed...*note to self-"TAKE PICTURE"*

Oh and look what I made!!!

My cousin asked me to make her a tote bag for her to put her work things in....her favorite color (I bet you'd never guess it!) is RED!!! LOL! I hope she likes it! I love the way it turned out!

I added a little pocket just for good measure!
Would you guys like a little tutorial on how I make my tote bags? I've been wanting to write one up but I figured I'd ask to see if there is any interest first?!?

Here is another tote that I made for myself. I was thinking of doing the tutorial on this bag, showing you how I did the design and then how to put it all together. So whaddya think?

Here's the inside of mine! I love it!!! They are so simple and quick to make!!!!
Let me know what you think!!!!

Vintage Quilts

I got a FANTABULOUS surprise the other day and I just could NOT wait to share it with you guys! My cousin came by and brought me not one but TWO of the prettiest quilt tops I have EVER seen! They were pieced a LONG LONG LONG time ago by my great grandmother! I've never seen these and this really came as a total shock to me! She wants me to quilt them!!!!!!!!! WHAT?!?!? I can't believe she trusts me enough to quilt these beauties! I don't know if I trust myself for that matter! I bet you can't wait to see them huh?????

This one is my favorite of the 2! I love a dresden quilt, and the colors in this one ARE TO DIE FOR

*be still my heart*

This one is also in the best shape of the 2 (you'll see what I mean in just a sec). My cousin told me it was pieced out of feed sack fabric. They both feel so....... brittle I guess would be the best word to describe it.

Here is the hexagon one. I love the muted pallet!

Just GORGEOUS!!!!

Here is one of the "troubled" spots. (sorry about the shadow of my arm!)

And here is the other one. This one is right in the middle of the quilt!!!

Annnnnd, one of the other reasons I wanted to share these with you is because I NEED YOUR HELP! I've never worked with anything like this before and I'm terrified I will ruin them. Do any of you know of a way that I can, I guess, stabilize? them before I back them? I'm scared putting them through a machine may damage them and I DO NOT want that to happen! Also, if you have any suggestions on how I can fix those "troubled" spots I would GREATLY GREATLY appreciate it! I think the spot in the last picture I showed you will be fairly easy to fix....but the whole in it????? How in the world can I fix that? (I don't have ANY sort of vintage fabrics or any that would be remotely CLOSE to the colors in it either!)

Thank you in advance for your help, I appreciate it more than you can imagine!!!!!

FMQC Finished~ "Monkey Business"

I did a little bit of "selfish sewing" the past few days!!! It felt great starting something and then having it finished in less than 2 days!!! I love the way this mini turned out! The pattern is called "Monkey Business" by Megan of Canoe Ridge Creations as part of her Fresh Mini Quilt Club. If you guys haven't checked that out yet, you should!!!
I made my hubby pick out the colors, to make it that much easier on me! I love them though!!!! I do have quite a few pics to share with you! Like I had told you guys in this post I've been thinking a lot about my photography. Sooo, I started playing around with my camera and LOVE some of the pics I got!!!!
This is all my lovely trimmings from the HST (half square triangles) that I made. I was really not happy with trimming that many, but I do L-O-V-E the end result!!!
I played with "props" a little in this pic! I think it turned out pretty good, don't you?
Love this pile!
I love how my camera will focus on one certain thing and blur out everything else!
I went in a bit closer for this one...still LOVE it!!!

And here is the top before I quilted it. I didn't know how I was going to quilt it, I didn't want to take away from the piecing....I really love the churn dash block.
I decided to go with concentric circles and couldn't be happier with the end result! It was my first time doing them (I'm pretty sure) and chose to use my walking foot since I don't think I could do a steady line in FMQ.

I had a great little photography helper! (I love the smile on his face!) I just took random scraps in orange, blue, and gray and decided to throw a little green on the back.
He did a good job helping out!

I love the way the quilting stands out on the back! As soon as I get home tomorrow from my MQG meeting this baby will go up on my wall next to its "sibling" (the only other mini I've made from the Fresh Mini Quilt Club series)! I love a quick project, don't you???

Quilt Stats:
Pattern- "Monkey Business" by Megan Bohr of Canoe Ridge Creations
Pieced and Quilted by me on my home sewing machine
Fabrics used- Kona Medium Gray, Kona Tangerine, and Kona Peacock (picked by my hubby)
Finished size- 21" x 21"
