I learned to sew at my mom's side. I made a few pillows and a pair of pajama pants when I was young and it never stuck with me. In 2002 my niece was born and I made my first quilt, after that I was HOOKED!Melissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05145069330156169921noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5239029614253167743.post-43327517221760762002012-04-21T01:32:05.677-04:002012-04-21T01:32:05.677-04:00What a darling little scrap quilt! I haven't read any of the posts so if I repeat something I'm sorry. You asked about basting your quilts...I never baste, I use quilt basting spray that I buy at Joann's not the craft adhesive spray just the quilt basting spray. It works really well for me. I spray some on the backing then on the batting after placing it on the backing then I apply the top and smooth out all the wrinkles. I only do this when I'm going to home machine quilt it or hand quilt it. Good luck and enjoy your quilting journey.Vickiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05391472111389747343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5239029614253167743.post-61338770764035136182012-04-19T22:24:18.166-04:002012-04-19T22:24:18.166-04:00My Mom taught me to sew, but I learned to quilt la...My Mom taught me to sew, but I learned to quilt later and I haven't been able to do anything else since. :-)Ceciliahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15207867362411137201noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5239029614253167743.post-21151034883416213272012-04-19T22:23:42.989-04:002012-04-19T22:23:42.989-04:00www.sewcraftykathy.blogspot.comwww.sewcraftykathy.blogspot.comKathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08459512656525814792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5239029614253167743.post-31292165107177020112012-04-19T22:22:27.775-04:002012-04-19T22:22:27.775-04:00My Mama took me when I was 11 to a ladies house th...My Mama took me when I was 11 to a ladies house that taught us how to sew. I read a few quilt history books. Big history buff. Saw a few quilts that friends inherited. And soon there after fell in love.
Went to the local quilt shop and signed up for the beginners class (log cabin), Did not know about rotary cutters, or rulers. Since then have lost count of how many quilts I have made. joined our local guild, and belong to a small quilt group. Happily sew for a few causes that are near and dear, and love it all. I was visiting him for a while and the lady across the street asked if I wanted to learn to sew. I said 'Sure!' So, she helped me make a cute little gathered skirt out of red and blue calico fabric. My sister had always been the "craftsy" one in the family, and since we are so close in age (16 months apart) there was a lot of competition going on. She entered a sewing competition at a local store, and I just had to get in on it too.. so with my Mom's help, I made a double-knit polyester pant suit-- complete with a vest! LOL I didn't win, but I did get honorable mention! And my sister came in second, I think... Since then, I've enjoyed sewing things for my 3 girls as they grew up, and also making things for my home!

Thank you for the fun giveaway-- I love blue and purple-- two of my favorite colors!Gwenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11384191841943515223noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5239029614253167743.post-37024886323816663502012-04-19T16:21:01.155-04:002012-04-19T16:21:01.155-04:00I learned to sew from my Mom, my olders sisters, a...I learned to sew from my Mom, my olders sisters, and for projects for 4-H back in the day. You've got a nice blog here, and should get lots of followers soon!

I started sewing when I was eight - my grandmother decided to teach me how to make my school clothes, and the first thing she had me make was a pair of fitted shorts with zipper, darts, and waistband! Oh, those were the days..... I didn't start quilting until a couple of years ago - my grandmother didn't quilt, and I don't think she even owned a quilt! But now it's about all the sewing I do, except for little dresses for my granddaughters!!

PS Love your son's blanket!!Sarah Craighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18393284767325742399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5239029614253167743.post-54516054472681977782012-04-19T08:57:54.343-04:002012-04-19T08:57:54.343-04:00New follower welcome to blogland (I blog over at h...New follower welcome to blogland (I blog over at http://jocrazymama.blogspot.com/ )
My Mother (who was a nurse) was an AMAZING seamstress. I grew up not realixing that not every kid could tell Mom they needed a new dress for something and it would appear out of her sewing room!! She only taught me a little, but I knew the basics. Mom has been gone for 8 years now and about a year ago I bought a sewing machine (because the troll guards my Mothers, long story) and I began to 'quilt'!
