Her prices are great, her fabric is top of the line! And her shipping? Well, let's just say we live A LONG WAYS away from each other, and it takes like 3 days to get here EVERY TIME! It's always wrapped up in a cute little package and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS comes with a HANDWRITTEN note from JULIE! She makes me feel like my transaction means something to her. Which to me, is important. I don't want to be dollar signs to someone, I want to be a customer. And she values her customers and you can tell it! (No she did not pay me off to say any of this I PROMISE!!!)
So, the reason I'm telling you about this....

If you want a bonus entry, you can over to The Intrepid Thread and tell me which fabric you LOVE and why you love it (seperate comment)
If you want another bonus entry you can go to The Intrepid Thread's blog and become a follower of Julie's and then leave me another comment telling me you did/are!!!!!!

When I was just getting started in quilting, one thing that probably helped me the most was being part of a quilting forum. I was able to participate in block and fabric swaps, quilt-a-longs, and mysteries--- also made some really great online friends! If I had any questions, all I had to do was post them, and I immediately got lots of helpful and friendly advice! :-) Thank you and Julie so much for the chance to win --- beautiful fabrics!! :-)

I love your dots!! They are so cheery and look great in your blocks. I read about the giveaway on Intrepid Thread's post this morning, but didn't know it was yours. I enjoy finding her posts in my email most days. Congratulations!

I follow you by email and there was no lovely internet when I started quilting and we lived in a very remote area. Books were a fabulous source of information that I still refer to.

My current favorite at the Intrepid Thread is the sanddollars on It's a Shore Thing. I just can't make up my mind which color!

Happy "Hopping" through the quilt blocks!

Love this fabric bundle. I could make some fun stuff with it. I'm a pretty new quilter myself, but I really like doing things quick and easy. I've learned a lot from the Missouri Quilt Company tutorials on how to do pinwheels and many other blocks quickly and easily. Plus, they have fast shipping and personalized service as well. (No slight to Julie. Love ya!)

Also I have learned a lot from quilt alongs and I recognized your first 3 blocks from the beginner's QAL. Isn't that a fun one and I am learning so much. I am also going to be doing one where we purchased fabric from Intrepid Thread and cut it into charm square for a swap. They were definitely very helpful.

I am a follower. What helped me the most -- even though I've sewn off and off for many years - was taking a My First Quilt Class. It covered everything from color coordination, cutting, to prewash or not to prewash, to binding and quilting. From there I just started following quilting bloggers. While there's not an official "right" or "wrong" way (most of the time) -- there's a right or a wrong way for many instances. Good luck!

You now have another newbie quilter follower and the answer of your question for me would have been not trying to learn a large quilt pattern. I found that I got frustrated and quit quilting. Then not too long ago; I started reading more books, finding which technique was what I liked best when I started to make small doll size quilts. I learn a new pattern, and I find that I Actually finish the smaller quilts to much of my delight. I also found a wonderful small quilt yahoo group with great helpers.

Congrats, Kelie, on your 50th post! I'm also a fairly new beginner...a beginner of reading blogs. lol I am now a follower of yours. I enjoyed reading your entry for the R,W,B Hop; I love dots, too.
My greatest help came from "C" at my LQS. She was so laid-back and so gentle. Whatever I did (even when it wasn't all that great) was OK and she encouraged me to keep going. I had a friend who attended her first quilting class from 'a tyrant' and my friend got discouraged and gave up. Hip, hip, horray for "C"!!!

Whoa! Hard question!--Mostly because I started quilting soooooo long ago. I'd have to say three things were equally helpful: 1) I'd been sewing since I was a child; made all my clothes, so my skills were already there. 2) My mom's aunt, who inspired me to make quilts, lived 600 miles away so I didn't know she had horrible workmanship (made quilts for 60 years and never got any better). 3) Every chance I had, I talked to Mennonite and Apostolic Christian quilters who could answer some of my questions. (That's right: no quilt shops; no internet; and the main branch of the city library had less than 15 books, most of them from the 1920's and 30's.)

Dora, the Quilter said...

@ Intrepid Thread I love Michael Miller's Madrona because some of the prints remind me of fabrics I loved at our little sewing shop when I was a kid.

Oh gosh! Where do I start? Congratulations on 50 blog posts! I do not have a blog but I read alot of them and know it takes alot of work and commitment to keep them going. Your RWB blocks are awesome! Love your fabrics as well. You have been busy I can tell. hehe. I love hops because of course I learn something but I also discover new blogs with creative and inspiring folks. So, I'm now a follower. I've been sewing since I was a kid but I learned how to quilt from a super lady who was my coworker. I learned alot from her but I also started taking classes. I found some great teachers and made friends with ladies in the classes. In the beginning and even now I try different classes and if I like it, ie applique, then I find projects that I just have to do. hehe. Getting together with friends and working on projects is always fun and motivating. These are a few things that helped me in the beginning and most I still do. There is always something new, an idea, a tool so staying plugged in and connected helps you to grow and become better at your craft.

Thank you and The Intrepid Thread for a generous giveaway and a chance to win some gorgeous fabric.

Hi Kelie, I'm a new follower. I'm doing the Beginners QAL too. When I started quilting the internet was (and still is) my go-to resource for information and inspiration. I've also purchased some books that give me good information and projects. I recently started the Quilter's Academy series of books.

rush said...

i am not sure what helped me when i was a new quilter. i probably just connected blocks after cutting them out with scissors. i might have had a book. when i became more serious, which was in the last few years, i was able to search on-line, buy more in-depth books and could afford to get better tools, like the handy dandy rotary cutter and the "self-healing" mat. i used to make my daughters clothes over 30 years ago, and i think that quilting was just a natural spin-off.

Hello: Thanks for letting us visit. My best, early, help came from all the ladies on the sunbonnetsue.com message board. They were a great help in teaching me applique'. Off to check out more of the blog hop!

Kelie - I've been a follower of yours, almost from the Get-Go! I'd have to say the online tutorials helped me the most. When I first started quilting, I just floundered on my own. But it's so easy to pick things up here. If my grandmother were still alive, she would have been my Online Community - she was an awesome quilter.

Barb Neiwert said...

I am a follower of The Intrepid Thread and have purchased fabric from Julie before. You're absolutely right about the great customer service she provides.

Barb Neiwert said...

It's a tough choice, but I really like the LillyBelle bundle Julie has put together in Cool Sunrise Plus - the 'plus' is an excellent idea with coordinating fabrics for the bundle. Yep, it's on my Wish List!

Those dots a CUTE!! Ok, I'm a follower and I tell you the blogging comunity has been AMAZING for helping me!

I follow. I've been quilting for 10 years and what has helped me the most is the support of my mom. She started me quilting and I probably would have quite after my 3rd quilt ended up so wonky I didn't think it was salvageable, but she helped me fixed it and refused to let me quit. That being said, this community is a fantastic help too!!!

I absolutely love the dress up days line that Julie carries!

Books helped me the most when I first started quilting. I started quilting many years ago before the internet. The internet would have been a wonderful help to me if we had it back then!

I love the Lilly Belle fabric from the Intrepid Thread the best!

I am now a follower!! What helped me the most was the "Beginner Quilter" class, using Alex Anderson's book, at a local quilt shop and all the terrific help they provided even long after the class was done :) I love quilter communities, everyone is always helpful, encouraging and inspirational. Thanks for the giveaway! Good luck, Everyone

When i started out I joined a quilt guild and they were great to help me with the basics.

I'm a new follower. When I first started quilting I did all mesurements in centimetres, but all blocks turned out more than wonky - I was ready to give it up again. Then I stumbled over Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville and her instructions for precise piecing in inches, and everything turned out just fine. I've to thank her for still being a quilter.
I'm a new follower of your blog. :-)

What helped me the most was taking a basic class--learning the fundamentals of accurate cutting and piecing.

question 2, I began quilting back in the 70s with no internet and very little to help so I am thinking it was lots of quilt books and trial and error.

Thanks to the blog hop I am now a follower of yours. Love the dots and I would never have known you were new to quilting if you had not said you were. You did soooo much better than I did when I first started. When I started quilting there was no internet so that tells you how old I am. What helped me the most were three ladies that took me under their wing and taught me how to quilt. In person help and guidance was my most valuable asset. As for ideas and inspiration there is nothing like the internet, amazing women and men with endless ideas and encouragement at your fingertips.

I'm a brand new follower! I have to agree with you - what helped me the most, was the online blogging community - all the tutorials, pictures of what everyone's making, etc.!
