Scrap Sewing and New Tutorial

Hello there! I don't know about you guys, but do you ever get the itch to just sew? I mean without rhyme or reason or pattern? I needed a big stress reliever and for me sewing is my stress relief! I started out with a nice big pile of pretty fabric scraps....

       I had no plans except to sew some scraps together. No particular size in mind...I just wanted to see if I could sit down at the machine and come up with something pretty.  

         This is what I came up with after a little bit. I really liked where it was going. Do u wanna see the finished project? You know you do!

           Here is the finished top. I asked on Instagram whether I should make it a mini or a pillow. Pillow was the majority so that's what I went with.
   

         I love the way it turned out! There is nothing better than a quick, fun, and easy project! At least for me anyways!
        I used my favorite method for this pillow which is an Envelop Closure and pssstttt.....I even made a video tutorial on how I do it! Soooo.....If you wanna learn how finish the majority of my pillows you can go watch my video tutorial right here! I know that my videos are a little long right now and that's mainly because I want to be able to know that I didn't leave any steps out and that you can understand exactly how I do it. I've got a few ideas on how to make them a bit shorter but for now, they are a little long. I hope you will still go watch it and let me know what you think!

       I chose to do a black and white stripe binding because, well let's be honest, it's one of my favorite ways to bind anything!

Blogger's Quilt Festival : ROYGBIV entry

        It's that time of year again! Yep, you know what I'm talking about.... the WONDERFUL Blogger's Quilt Festival!!!!!

      If this is your first time visiting my little spec on the internet, WELCOME! I'm so glad you decided to stop by! My name is Kelie and I have been sewing/quilting for around 2 1/2 years now. I'm addicted to everything about creating a wonderful quilt or anything quilt/sewing related! If you wanna know a little bit more about me you can find out here or if you'd like to see any of my other creations you can see those here.       But you are here to see what I quilt I decided to enter into the Festival, huh?

             Let me tell you the story behind it! A friend of mine (Karie) and I decided since we both loved rainbows so much plus each other's work why not do a little swap between ourselves? I don't know if any of you have ever done a swap before but let me tell you, I'm my most creative when I'm making something for someone else. I want to make something that I love sooo much that I would be thrilled if I received it. So, I always push my boundaries. This is what I created for that swap.
           It's very simple patchwork but I have never seen another one like it before! I absolutely hated giving this one away (I already have plans to make one for myself)!!!!

  

        It's made up of around 686 1.5" blocks! I didn't want a stark white background, so I went with Low Volume prints. It was really fun to see this come together, block by block.

             It took me forever trying to figure out how to quilt it! In the end I decided to go with an all over loopy design, kind of reminded me of the wind blowing (don't burst my bubble!!!)

              These blocks are so little, my wonderful (but small) label even covered 2 of them! But just like I knew she would Karie absolutely LOVES it! (I'm gonna ask her if I can use one of her pics of it hanging on her "mini wall" it looks awesome there!

                   I backed it in one of my favorites, Britten Numbers!
      I hope you guys love this quilt as much as I do! I can't wait to make another one! (Maybe I'll even take you guys along for the ride on my YouTube Channel..... stay tuned for that!

             

            Anywho, I would ABSOLUTELY love you forever if you loved my entry enough to nominate it! It's going into the ROYGBIV category!

Finally, Good Quilt Pics!

Hey there!!! How is everyone? I'm doing great! I just got back (on Sunday) from one of the most amazing weekends ever...AKA The Stash Bash! It was so great seeing all of my online friends in person....the online community of quilters and sewers is beyond amazing! I'm working on editing pics and VLOG footage from the weekend so stay tuned for that.

     But today I am here to show you some pretty pictures! You may be tired of seeing this quilt but I just had to get some better pics of it. I refused to wash or use it before I did. Sew, I drug my quilt holder (aka my wonderful hubby) out and we headed down to one of my favorite spots not far from our house. It was right at sunset which I think added a nice look to the pics!

    Remember seeing this before? Maybe you remember this post where I talked all about the pattern which is called Color My World by (one my favorite desingers) Elizabeth Dackson of Don't Call Me Betsy.
   Or you could remember seeing it from this post as part of the Blogger's Quilt Festival.
   Either way, I had to share it AGAIN! I never get tired of looking at this quilt! It's just so colorful and happy and (I think) perfect in every way!
    I'll just shut up now and show you all the pretty pictures!

   And of course my pretty girl had to get in a few of the pics....this one is my favorite tho!

   

   I've been doing a lot of prep work for an upcoming IG sale, so if you don't follow me there you really should! (@craftnursequilt)
   I've also been working on some more videos for my YouTube channel I'm hoping to have one ready sometime tomorrow....this editing thing really gets me. I'm slowly getting the hang of it though!

Mini Swoon Finish

I just finished up another round of Sew Sew Modern (round 4) and am absolutely L-O-V-I-N-G what I received!!! It's one of the best swap packages I have ever gotten! But.... I'm not here to show you that...(yet! I'm a bad blogger and got too excited and forgot to take good pics of my goodies!) But I am here to show you what I sent my Partner!

I had such a hard time packing this up and sending it off! You guys just don't even know!!! Even my husband said he wished I didn't have to send it off! But the good thing about it is I can always make another one! I absolutely LOVE the way this mini Swoon turned out!

It is a lot of itty bitty piecing, but it came together rather quickly once I had all the cutting done.
I love the busyness of the background!

If you guys don't know this pattern is called Mini Swoon and is by the wonderful Camille Roskelley! I've been really wanting to make the large version of this pattern for a while now...I believe I purchased it going on 2 years ago and just have not gotten around to making it yet! It is on my "to do" list though!
I chose to do concentric circles for the quilting, offsetting the circle so it wasn't in the middle. It was such fun to make this mini quilt! I just can't get over it! I hope my Partner likes it as much as I do!

I chose to do a simple backing...the front piecing was enough for me! LOL!

Anyhow, I hope you guys enjoyed checking out this mini I made! I've got some more stuff to share with you VERY soon!!! (promise!)
Oh yeah, a little YouTube update....I have my first video completely filmed and can NOT figure out this dang editing stuff! It's driving me CRAZY!!! I told my husband that if I can teach myself to sew then I can for sure teach myself to edit! LOL! I'm using Windows Live Movie Maker if anyone knows of any sites, tutorials, or anything that will help me learn this stuff PLEASE leave me a comment letting me know! I will be forever grateful!

Blogger's Quilt Festival- ROYGBIV

I can't believe I did it! I finished the quilt ON TIME!!! (Well, with less than a few hours to spare!) And I'm barely making it to the deadline to enter my 2nd quilt into the Blogger's Quilt Festival! Seriously, the linky closes in less than 1 hour!!! It's 9 a.m. here and I just literally finished this quilt 5 hours ago!!! I busted my tail to get it done...but I DID IT!!!!
So, for my 2nd entry into the Festival (my other entry can be found here) I am entering Color My World!

I think this is my favorite quilt I've made to date! You can read more about the pattern and quilt top by clicking here. I have debated and debated which category to enter this quilt into....I have one of 3 options....the Throw Size, ROYGBIV, or Scrappy. This quilt is completely scrappy and a good throw size but I believe ROYGBIV is its best fit! I really loved making this quilt and can totally see myself making another one, just maybe a lot bigger next time!

Here is the backing, I won't go into to much detail with this post (a better post with better photos coming very soon!) but let's just say this was not the original backing! Oh well, stuff happens, especially with kids right?

I chose to quilt it in an all over meandering loop and I'm pretty happy with the results!
As I'm sure you guys can tell in one of the above pictures, the weather does not want me to get pretty pictures today! So I plan on dragging my hubby out this weekend (weather permitting) and have a real quilt photo shoot!

It's a rainbow quilt, so what better to bind it in than black stripes? I think it finishes the quilt perfectly!

A Improv Halloween Finish

I must be on some kind of blogging roll these past couple days! Because here I am again, sharing something else with you!!! It makes me so happy to be able to share my projects with the quilting community!
I was recently (like 2 days ago) part of the Wicked Blog Hop (you can read my post here) and was very sad that I did not have one of my quilts completed for you guys! SOOOOO, I busted my hump and got it D-O-N-E! (yep, a quilt from start to finish in less than 48 hours! It's a record for me!)

I pulled random fabrics from my stash that reminded me of Halloween and started cuttin' and stitchin' and this is what I ended up with! I'm really happy with the end result. It's a small little thang about 34" wide by 46" long. But I LOVE it! :-)
   I did an all over stipple for the quilting (which is my go to stitch because it's just so quick!) oh wait, I'm jumping ahead of myself, I forgot about the backing!!!!

I love the back just as much as the front! I don't know which one I like more....what about you? Back or front?
 I threw fabrics up on my design wall randomly and starting slashin' and stitchin until it was big enough! (I love this form of piecing! No worries, it's sooooo freeing!)

Here is a little bit better view of the 2 blocks I included in the back. I think they work really good with the rest of the fabrics!

I was thinking about leaving it out on my couch like this, but then decided against it! (Don't want the kids or dogs to ruin such a pretty thing!) Sooo, maybe it'll go up on a wall? I'm not sure yet, what would you do with it?

I used some Pearl Bracelets in Pumpkin for the binding! I think it brings the whole quilt together!
I've got a few more ideas for Halloween projects, but I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get to them any time soon, but I am going to try!

Finished Bee Quilt

I am so excited to share this quilt with you!!! I busted my tail to get it done by Friday (aka Hubby's b-day) and although I didn't get it finished before he got off work, I did manage to finish it before the end of the night!
We went out today and had a lot of fun taking pictures of it!!! Let me forewarn you, this will be a photo heavy post! I can't wait to show you!!!!

I love where I live! Beautiful photo ops almost every where you turn! I mentioned "railroad" to my hubby and he took me to this gorgeous view! The quilt is pretty awesome too, huh?

Here is a "snippet" of the back, I improv'd a large log cabin...I think its just as awesome as the front, if I do say so myself!

I am so happy with this quilt!!! It's the first one I've made for "us", when I say "us" I mean me! LOL! Really, it's for him, but I know I'll get some good use out of it too!

Then we decided to head down to the River....I'm telling you, it was a GORGEOUS day!!!

I took soooo many pictures, I swear I've deleted at least 100, if not more, and still have TONS that I didn't edit!

Here is a full pic of the backing...what do you think? Did I do good?

A close up (somewhat) of the quilting...I chose to do random squares and rectangles. Those of you who follow me on Instagram (@CraftNurseQuilt) know that I had some issues with the quilting. I somehow manage to get a GINORMOUS pucker on one of the blocks! I have since washed it and although I can still see it, it's not THAAAAT noticeable.

I think this pic is my favorite from today! I love how the rustic look of the wooden stairs mixes with the modern look of the quilt!

For the binding I mainly used a gray diagonal stripe (I think it's from Riley Blake, but don't quote me on it!) and added a strip of blue, orange, and yellow.

This one is probably my 2nd favorite pic of the day, although I love them all!!!

This quilt is my very first "Bee Quilt" and I want to say a big THANK YOU to the girls from Make It Modern Bee for making these gorgeous blocks for me!!! I love them and will cherish this quilt for many many years!!!!!
